Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) is ending soon!

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) currently contributes to the cost and installation fees for an EV charging unit, both at home and in the workplace (subject to certain conditions being met).  Whilst the workplace grant will stay in place, at least for now, the grant for the home installation is to end in April 2022.  After this date, the scheme will no longer be available to homeowners who live in single-unit properties.  So, if you live in a bungalow, detached, semi-detached or terraced house you will no longer be able to claim.

That the EVHS ends in April 2022 means that applications for the grant in single unit properties must be completed by no later than 31st March 2022.  They must then be submitted to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) by no later than 30th April 2022.  After this date, only homeowners who live in flats and tenants in single-use properties will be able to apply.

Time is of the essence

As time is very much of the essence, we thought we would recap on the benefits of this grant before it’s too late to apply for it…

The EVHS, otherwise known as the OZEV Grant was commissioned by the UK Government to encourage people to buy electric cars.  This grant means you can currently claim up to 75% (maximum £350) off the cost of buying and installing a home charging unit.  It is, however, subject to certain eligibility criteria as listed below:

  • Your home must have private or designated off-street parking
  • Your vehicle must be on the approved EVHS eligible vehicle list
  • You must own or have leased your EV for at least 6 months. (If it is a company vehicle then you must have been the designated driver for at least 6 months).
  • You must use an OZEV-approved charging point installer, such as Jellyfish EV.

Eligible Vehicles

All full battery EVs qualify for the EVHS scheme, but some plug-in hybrids may not because CO2 emissions need to be lower than 50g/km, and some hybrids have yet to reach this level of emission.  If you are in doubt as to the eligibility of your vehicle then please click the link below:

How to claim the OZEV grant

^

To claim the grant is an easy enough process.  In fact, once you have contacted Jellyfish your qualified installer will take care of it for you.  It is they who will apply for the grant on your behalf and if the application is successful, the amount of grant you are entitled to will be deducted from your installation bill.

So, with the EVHS ending in April 2022, it would be wise to act quickly if you wish to take advantage of the grant.
